The technology of HBC’s supercritical carbon dioxide boiler successfully passed the review by the National Safety and Energy-Saving Technical Committee

A few days ago, the technology of Harbin Boiler Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as HBC) under Harbin Electric Corporation in supercritical CO2 boiler successfully passed the review by the National Safety and Energy-Saving Technical Committee. The participants to the review meeting include the experts from the State Administration for Market Regulation, China Special Equipment Inspection Institute,  Jiangsu Special Equipment Safety Supervision and Inspection Institute, Xi’an Thermal Engineering Institute, etc., Yu Long, the deputy secretary of the Party Committee and general manager of HBC, Xia Liangwei, the deputy general manager of HBC and some other responsible comrades of relevant departments of HBC. 

As the main supporting equipment for 5MWe power generation supercritical CO2 power generation platform, the 5MWe supercritical CO2 boiler superheater, developed and manufactured by HBC independently, has a parameter of 600℃/20MPa at the outlet, which is at the world leading level. The boiler adopts L-shaped layout, with a single furnace and membrane wall, with single intermediate reheating, with low NOX main burner, with balanced ventilation and flue gas re-circulation. The temperature is regulated by double flue baffles, which satisfies the use of CO2 as the working medium in circulation in boiler equipment and design requirements. Through a whole day technical review, the review team unanimously agreed that the technical plan of HBCs supercritical CO2 boiler passed the review by the National Safety and Energy Saving Technical Committee, and the design, manufacturing, and inspection work can be carried out with reference to the boiler safety technical specifications and related standards.

It is reported that the power generation efficiency of the supercritical CO2 boiler circulation system is higher than that of the traditional steam circulation power generation. It is possible to achieve complete decoupling of heat and electricity, and achieve simple and compact structure. The supporting boiler load can be better controlled and can better meet peak shaving requirements in power generation in cooperation with solar power, wind power and other intermittent and unstable renewable energy sources. The supercritical CO2 power generation has been listed in the “Made in China 2025 - Energy Equipment Implementation Plan” by the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, and the National Energy Administration. It is one of the important topics for energy technology innovation in the 14th Five-Year Plan” in our country. The supercritical CO2 boiler that passed the review is just an important result of the state key R&D project, in a specific period, undertaken by HBC as the leading force for the first time.

At present, the supercritical CO2 technology is still in its infancy in China. HBC would like to shoulder the responsibilities as a state-owned  enterprise, adhere to its mission of responsibilities as a state-owned enterprise, actively explore new technical directions in the field of power generation equipment, and take a lead in the trend of this technical industry. HBC will continue to seize new opportunities to develop key technologies and make contribution in implementation of the country’s major strategic deployment of medium and long-term energy technology innovation.
